J. Michael Back

[[1]] With the start of the 1999-2000 school year, J. Michael Back took over as only the second director of the Walton High School Bandprogram. Mr. Back had been the Assistant Director of Bands at Walton since 1985. Prior to coming to Walton, Mr. Back was the percussion coordinator for the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps starting in 1982. Mr. Back attended Morehead State Universitywhere he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education in 1981, having marched as a snare drummer with Spirit of Atlanta in 1979 and studied under DCI hall-of-famer Tom Float.

Mr. Back is a member of Music Educators National Conference, Georgia Music Educators Association, the Percussive Arts Society, Phi Mu Alpha, Phi Beta Mu and Who's Who Among America's Teachers. He also served on the staff of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Band.

Mr. Back serves as an adjudicator throughout the country as well as a clinician and consultant for the Ludwig Drum Company
