- Elimination of the Brigadiers - 1973 * The historical record has been incorrect for almost 39 years (to date) concerning the Brigadiers near miss in re-attaining DCA membership at the 1973 DCA prelims. As of this writing, DCA records http://www.dcacorps.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/1973.pdf STILL list the Guelph Royalaires as placing 12th in prelims and the Erie Thunderbirds as placing 11th. In actuality, the situation was just the opposite. Throughout the 1973 season the Royalaires narrowed the scoring spread with the Thunderbirds, and at prelims, finally overtook them. It was the Erie Thunderbirds who scored 66.00 at DCA prelims only .05 ahead of the Brigadiers to obtain DCA membership in 1973. Since DCA included the top 12 corps in Finals competition in the reverse order of their prelim ordinals, the Thunderbirds were the first competing corps at Finals that evening. (check out the announcer on Fleetwood's recording at the end of T-birds' Finals' performance) The DCA record is correct in showing that the Thunderbirds again passed the Royalaires at the DCA Championship with their Finals' scores as 59.90 and 57.00 respectively.
- The Brigs went on to finish 13th at DCA that year, just missing a membership position by .05 to the Erie Thunderbirds, and subsequently folded. The Brigadiers returned to the competitive field many years later, won multiple DCA titles, and are now one of the strongest and most consistent senior corps in existence.
