In 1997, former members of Southern Nights attempted to reform under the name Virginia Patriots. It was felt, at the time, that a fresh start was needed for the organization. Rehearsal space was acquired and the horns and drums from the old corps were pulled out of storage. A short concert tour of area shopping malls during the Christmas season was held in order to drum up more interest. A competitive show was planned for that summer.

Unfortunately, old problems (and personality conflicts) that plagued Southern Nights soon arose. By the summer of 1998, membership and interest dropped and it was decided that the corps should go inactive indefinitely.
