Tenor

Tenor bugles were common from the 1930s into the 1950s and are akin to soprano bugles in range but with a slightly larger bore near the bell, which produces a slightly darker tone quality. Some first-chair lead buglers preferred to play tenors instead of sopranos. Tenor bugles remained in the Getzen and Elkhorn catalogs into the late 1960s but directors were by then preferring to utilize fluegelhorns for the lower parts.
