[edit] Vince Lamb
I removed the line regarding this person as it is unfair to characterize un unmoderated usenet group as being cheifly run by one person. --Sam King 08:17, 19 February 2007 (PST)
- I didn't say that Vince ran RAMD. I said he was a big influence on its development. Talking about RAMD without talking about Vince is like talking about funk music without talking about James Brown.--The big dog 20:29, 8 November 2007 (PST)
- I still think that the way it is currently phrased is misleading; no one person is responsible for an unmoderated newsgroup. I don't think it can be said that anyone has developed an unmoderated newsgroup either. If you wanted to say that Vince has been and continues to be a "principle contributor" to RAMD I think that would make more sense.--Sam King 22:23, 31 March 2008 (PDT)
- Well, I can't speak to "continues to be," but the phrase doesn't say that he's responsible for the group. He is responsible for developing a good deal of the culture and activity there, by importing certain aspects of other newsgroups he frequented into RAMD that gave it a certain atmosphere, and this is something anyone who was around RAMD in the 90s can attest to. Of course, this is the problem with an article like this: it's hard to cite sources on something like that. Every newsgroup and forum has its royals, and VL was definitely high up on that list from the early days into the heyday, until it began to decline in the face of web-based forums in the 2000s. Beyond that I can't speak as well to it, because I like many others went elsewhere--but, there are sure to be others with their own things to offer to this article. I wish Nikk Pilato or even Vince himself would come over here and flesh this out, they will have much more to offer to this than the bare bones I can put up here.--The big dog 23:22, 3 April 2008 (PDT)
- Well I must relent on this. There are a lot things on DCW that are in need of sources so being picky about something that is difficult to source seems a bit silly. The whole point of DCW to me is to record a lot of information on Drum Corps because so little does have sources. There are only a handful of published references to even establish that drum corps exists as a music genre so we have to start somewhere.--Sam King 11:16, 4 April 2008 (PDT)
