This is sometimes called a pocket bugle, angel bugle or sopranino, an allusion to its very small size. Always considered only a novelty, it is pitched one octave higher than the standard soprano and tenor bugle. Limited in practical use and rarely seen after its introduction in the early 1960s, it never found a regular place in drum and bugle corps music, but has been occasionally worn on a tether or chain as a neck ornament, notably by trumpeter Maynard Ferguson. The 'pocket trumpet' versions of this instrument have found some wider use in bands and orchestras, however.
