From 1972 to 1991, the second tier of Drum Corps International competition was designated as A class. In 1985, Drum Corps added a third tier, Class A-60. From 1992 to 2007, the divisions were called Divisions II and III. For the 2008 season, Divisions II and III merged to form Open Class.
