Off the line
From DrumCorpsWiki
[edit] Definition
"Off the line" was a label for the first piece or section of a drum corps show. It initially referred to the fact that this was the piece played when the corps started its show off the starting line on the leftmost part of the competition field. The term continued to be used, even after the custom of starting on the left sideline passed out of corps competition rules, into the early 80s.
