Michael Boo

Michael Boo is a composer, creative writer, church choir director (vocal and handbells) from Chesterton, Indiana.

Michael holds a Bachelors of Music Education degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago and a Masters of Music in Composition and Theory from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois.

He is the Staff Writer for DCI (Drum Corps International) and writes extensively for other pageantry organizations, including BOA (Bands of America) and WGI (Winter Guard International). His contributions to these various activities have earned him the nickname, "The Pen of Pageantry."

He also is an assistant director of the Valparaiso University/Community Concert Band, a percussionist in the band and a percussionist in the professional concert band, Windiana.

He performs on the marimba and vibes at church and coordinates the annual Duneland Community Advent Festival, a major fund-raising benefit for the community food bank. He also performs in a community folk ensemble, Save the Tunes, and has been dabbling in learning the violin with the group.

His compositions for concert band have been picked up by TRN Music Publisher, Inc. Four of his works were premiered by Windiana in China in June of 2006 and he has been asked by the Chinese hosts to write some works based on Chinese folk songs for Windiana’s return trip to China in June of 2007.
