[edit] History
Band Directors from southern New Jersey founded Jersey Surf in 1990. Their first performance was in 1991 at the Independence Classic Drum and Bugle Corps competition at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field. The 2007 season marks the first time the corps will tour the west coast, including Washington, Oregon, and California. The 2007 season was Jersey Surf's most successful competitively, finishing no lower than second in any competition. The corps won the Division II silver medal, as well as winning brass and percussion titles in their best finals placement in corps history. The corps was named "Most Improved", and corps director Bob Jacobs was named Division II Director of the Year.
In January 2008, the corps announced that it was seeking World Class membership for its 2009 season.
[edit] Philosophy
- By combining a positive attitude with a commitment to living every day in the pursuit of our "personal best," there is virtually no limit to what we can accomplish... as individuals who comprise the special team effort called The Jersey Surf. We "do what we love" and we "love what we do."
[edit] Traditions
Corps members wear simple necklaces that consist of blue and black beads. A white bead is earned for every year as a member, with a clear bead for each year as horn sergeant and a yellow bead for the member's age-out season.
