Greendale Police Paraders
From DrumCorpsWiki
The Greendale Police Paraders was a junior drum and bugle corps based in Greendale, Wisconsin. [1]
[edit] History
The corps was founded around 1964 by Sgt. John Hays of the Greendale Police Department. The Paraders were actually part of the Greendale Police League which was started in 1961 by the Police Department as a means to provide recreational activities for the youth of the community. The League included among other things a rifle club and scuba diving club. The Paraders were the last of these clubs to be formed.
The Paraders had appoximately 16-20 members and we had uniforms that consisted of light blue shirts with dark blue pocket coverings and dark pants. Our head covering consisted of old WWII helmet liners that we spray painted white. There was a color guard, small horn section, drums, and a baton twirler.
We worked hard to to march in local parades and won a trophy for the first parade the corps marched, only a few weeks after the organization was formed.
About a year after the Paraders were formed, it was absorbed into the former South Milwaukee Mariners which had moved to Greendale and renamed itself the Garden City Mariners.
