DCI Division III
Division III is a former classification of DCI drum corps, from 1992 to 2007. On September 22, 2007, Divisions II and III merged to form a new Open Class. This division was formerly known as A-60 Class from 1985-1991.
A-60 class was formed in 1985 to give smaller corps a chance to compete with each other and not have the disparity of a 35-member corps competing against a 128-member corps. From its beginning until 2005, corps in A-60/Division III were required to be between 30 and 60 members in size. Following a slight restructuring of Divisions II and III in 2006, Division III corps could then be up to 79 members in size. This included a "grey area," in which corps between 71 and 79 members could choose to march in either Division II or III.
