Concourse of Champions
A major early-season competition, long considered the Midwest season opener and held on Memorial Day evening at Lake Front Stadium in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Originating on May 30, 1962 and sponsored by the Kenosha Kingsmen, it was noted as much for the icy late-spring night winds off adjoining Lake Michigan as for the excitement of being the preview event of each new drum corps season. (It bore the nickname "Ice Carnival" among fans.) The contest lasted into the mid-1970s, past the dissolution of the sponsoring Kingsmen.
