Bobby Thompson

Bobby Thompson was arguably the best drum instructor in Drum Corps during the late fifties and sixties.

Thompson, perfected and taught the left hand teacup grip, in which the little finger is trained to keep both of its joints bent and the proximal phalange pulled back.^{[citation needed]}

Around 1958, inspired by John Dowlan and his Air Force Drum & Bugle Corps Drum Quartet, Bobby Thomson became the first drum instructor to incorporate backsticking^{[citation needed]}, in a competing corps, to his Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights drum repertoire.
