The original Drum Corps World magazine ("The Voice of the Drum Corps") founded in Chicago, Illinois in January, 1950 as Midwest Corps News and was later retitled Drum Corps Herald.
Drum Corps World #2
The current Drum Corps World (DCW) was founded in Madison, Wisconsin in April of 1972, at the same time as the founding of Drum Corps International, as a weekly newspaper to chronicle the drum corps activity. For thirty nine years, hundreds of writers and photographers have reported the news of the junior, senior, and alumni drum and bugle corps activity from the U.S., Canada, and around the world.
From 1972 through April of 2011, the paper was printed weekly during drum corps season and monthly during the off-season on distictive white paper--- a total of 766 issues, totaling 15,556 pages of material, an average of 398 pages per year.
In May of 2011, publisher Steve Vickers ceased publishing DCW in a paid-subscription physical newspaper format and moved it 100% on-line as a free-by-subscription electronic publication. As a result of the format switch, subscriptions almost immmediately rose from around 2,000 to well over 15,000.
The April, 2012 issue will celebrate forty years of Drum Corps World.
